During the May half-term break The Grange School Rowing Club travelled to the London 2012 Olympic rowing course at Dorney to compete in The National Schools Regatta. With over 5000 competitors from Year 9 to Year 13 from over 100 schools and clubs, it is by far the biggest event of the season.

Racing took place on the 2000 metre eight lane course over three days of competition. Some events attracted entries from over 60 clubs and racing was incredibly competitive with crews fighting to secure the highest possible national ranking.

The Grange entered 56 athletes competing in Quads and Octuples with the vast majority of these rowers competing in their first national regatta on a multi lane course.

All Grange crews performed well, with the J14 Girls Octuple placing 11th nationally, the J15 Boys Quad placing 9th nationally and the J15 Girls Quad placing 19th out of 68 crews.

“These results show the huge potential of these squads who are all racing in their first competitive rowing season. Our rowers will undoubtedly benefit from the experience of racing under pressure in challenging weather conditions in front of large crowds,” said Gareth Ireland, Head of Rowing at The Grange.
