Business studies is an engaging and insightful subject taught by teachers with work experience across various industries, including finance. The staff also have a wealth of examining experience including marking across GCSE and writing examination papers for exam boards.
Students are encouraged to develop their analytical, numerical and evaluative skills to assess both strategies and policies in real life scenarios. These are skills highly sought after by employers. They can receive additional support with their studies through our Support Clinics so that they are able to achieve their true potential.
Our Geography Department understands that if studying planet Earth you need to get out and see it. Studying it at The Grange means there is a large focus on fieldwork throughout the school, both day trips and residentials. Recent ventures have included visits to York to investigate flooding, Selwick Bay and Hornsea to explore coastal erosion and, further afield, our biannual trip to North America to locations such as New York Niagara and Toronto.
Inside the classroom, we create a supportive environment but one that challenges as part of a skills-based curriculum, providing exposure to the knowledge demanded in geography-related industries. Our well-qualified staff help our students achieve excellent results and inspire students to continue a passion for Geography, often continuing their studies at University.
We bring history to life inside the classroom through role play and games for younger students and through unforgettable experiences including a trip to America and our links with Lessons from Auschwitz.
We create an atmosphere that allows students to enjoy history through debate, discussion and collaborative working, using Microsoft Teams to facilitate this. Independent study and project work also takes place as students are encouraged to think about life outside their own lives and understand modern life by bringing the past to life.
History can provide vital transferable skills for life such as developing an ability to construct a coherent argument, through digesting large amounts of information and accept (and deconstruct) opposing points of view. Topics studied are based on our teachers own interests and expertise ensuring it is taught with passion and a wealth of knowledge.
Philosophy, Ethics and Religion at The Grange offers a rich curriculum, exploring how different viewpoints, cultures, and religions tackle the fundamental questions about life and existence.
Development of Human Understanding: Throughout history, humans have grappled with big questions such as ‘why are we here?’ and ‘what is our purpose? We delve into these big philosophical questions so as to deepen our understanding of others and ourselves.
Cultural Influence: We learn about how different aspects of human life (politics, science, literature, art, law, economics, psychology, sociology) continue to change our philosophical and religious notions of a range of big issues such as what is good and evil? Poverty, environmental ethics, the role of punishment and how science and religion interlink.
Global Insight: The world we live in is global and multicultural. We explore our ability to understand and interpret other people’s world views and religious traditions and the impact they have on wider society so that our students become global citizens.
Multidisciplinary: Philosophy, Ethics and Religion is inherently multidisciplinary. This is reflected in our program at The Grange where you can find links between the humanities and social sciences across all key stages, we even do a bit of maths too.
