Maths at The Grange is a key subject for all our students, we aim to make Maths a stimulating and rewarding subject that everyone enjoys.
All our Mathematics teachers are highly qualified Mathematics specialists, with a breadth of experience across schools in the UK and abroad. Students in Y7-11 are set by ability and teaching is carefully tailored to meet individual needs. Those who are less mathematically confident have the benefit of very small teaching groups, typically around 10 students. Mathematical high fliers work at a level beyond GCSE, taking Level 2 Further Mathematics as an additional qualification in Y11.
In 2018, 32% of students gained Grade 9 and 88% Grade 7-9. 64% of students achieved A* or A in A Level Mathematics and 86% did so in Further Mathematics. Students regularly go on to read Mathematics and related subjects at the most competitive universities, including Oxford and Cambridge; we provide intensive support for students preparing for entrance assessments.
Mathematics is fun! We have a thriving Mathematical Games Club and code-breaking group and each year run trips such as the Year 7 Catalyst Museum Day and Year 12 Maths Inspiration. Students of all ages have lots of opportunities to take part in individual and team national challenges and competitions; several of our teams have reached the National Finals.
