For the second year running a group of Grange School students will be taking on a gruelling rowing challenge to raise funds for the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital charity (LHCH).
23 students from Years 10 to 13 will be taking part in the 'Million Metre' challenge, rowing the equivalent distance from Hartford to Zurich in just 24 hours! The team start tomorrow morning (19th March 2022) by rowing 6km from 8am and will row a full marathon each over the 24 hours.
The event has been organised by Year 13 Deputy Head Boy Ben Scawn who is a great supporter of the charity. He told us “following on from our success last year and knowing how much of a difference our sponsorship money made to people living with heart and lung disease we were determined to try and make it bigger and better this year. I have seen the immense pressure LHCH have been under during the pandemic and I just wanted to do something to support them. Thankfully students across the school agreed and this time we really wanted to do something even more challenging. We are looking forward to it, even the blisters!”
Head of Upper Sixth Form Miss Kat Huntriss said, “I am so proud of the students for doing this amazing challenge, yet again. I know the amount of hard work and effort that went into it last time. Not just during the 24-hour challenge but the hours and hours of training prior to it, and even after that there were still a lot of sore hands and aching limbs at the end of it. For the students to go even further this time is truly inspiring.”
The million-metre challenge will take place on Saturday 19th March.
