Since graduating from Edinburgh University in 2016, Ted Simpson, a former student at The Grange, has dedicated himself to becoming an adventure filmmaker, recently receiving the New Talent award at the 2018 Adventure Uncovered Film Festival.
His award-winning film ‘Into the Northland’ is a thoughtful exploration of man's connection with the landscape inspired by his grandmother's stories of Sandwood Bay in Scotland's wild North West.
After completing his A-levels in 2011, Ted went to Edinburgh University to study History and graduated in 2016. Whilst there he helped to establish the student-run EUTV. His present career trajectory brings together his twin passions for adventure and visual storytelling.
Speaking about the film to Chrystal.eu, a website dedicated to being “the voice of the independent creative community,” Ted commented:
“I'd actually had the idea to make a film about Sandwood Bay for a long time since I first heard about it in the stories my grandma told me about the location. The biggest truth I hold on to when filmmaking is the importance of story, and with Sandwood Bay I felt my grandma had gifted me one of the most intriguing tales of any place in the UK — a tale that hadn't really been explored before.”
