From rat dissection to rocket launching, The Grange will be hosting the STEM Olympics on Monday 15th May.
Teams of Year 9 students from schools across the North West will compete against each other in a series of six fun, yet challenging events.
The competition is designed to test the students' knowledge and skills in the STEM subjects: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths. The day-long event will be full of engaging activities such as a rat dissection, crime scene investigation, rocket launching, coding, and a maths quiz.
24 schools participated in last year’s event and, after a closely fought competition, the team from Rydal Penrhos School were crowned overall champions. Will a different school take the crown this time round?
“The idea is that it is primarily a fun day, but also there is clearly an element of challenge and competition, and the students involved come away having both enjoyed their experience and having learnt new skills,” said Mr Grisedale, the Head of Physics at The Grange.
The competition will comprise six individual events that are practical based, and designed to assess team work and the application of key scientific principles from KS3.
The idea is that it is primarily a fun day, but also there is clearly an element of challenge and competition, and the students involved will hopefully come away having both enjoyed their experience and having learnt some new skills!
I do hope that you can support us and if you wish to bring a team to the competition could you please complete the form below by Wednesday 19th April:
